HANCEVILLE, Ala. – While Thursday’s Hanceville City Council meeting was short and sweet, Hanceville Mayor Kenneth Nail utilized a packed council chamber to make a brief statement of gratitude to those in attendance and in the community of Hanceville at large concerning the support he’s been offered after charges of using his office for personal gain were filed against him this week.
“I just want to thank everybody for all the encouragement they’ve sent me and the prayers and cards they’ve sent my way,” said Nail. “I really appreciate it. I felt it. Nail reaffirmed his commitment to the city, continuing, “Y’all know I love Hanceville, and I really appreciate that positive feeling that I got.”
The council approved a request from the Hanceville Civitan Club to shut down U.S. Highway 31 from College Drive to Fire Station Road on Saturday, Dec. 2, for the Cullman County Christmas parade. Lineup will begin at 9 a.m. with the parade rolling out at noon.
The council approved a bid from Xybix to provide new consoles for Hanceville’s dispatch center; the consoles/desks are the same ones the Cullman Police Department and Cullman County Sheriff’s Office utilize. The bid is $44,251.08. The Hanceville Police Department was awarded a grant from the 911 Board that will take care of $40,000 of the expense.
The Historical Preservation Commission asked the council to table appointing a new member until the next meeting; the council obliged.
The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, with work session beginning at 5 p.m. and meeting called to order at 5:30. The public is invited to attend.
