Hanceville teen killed in hit-and-run crash; ALEA seeking information

The single-vehicle crash involving a bicyclist that occurred at 6:46 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, claimed the life of a Hanceville man.  

According to ALEA, Dakota R. Lamons, 19, was fatally injured when the bicycle that he was operating was struck by a vehicle.  

After the initial impact, Lamon was thrown off the bicycle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

The vehicle left the scene and the exact vehicle type, as well as the driver is still unknown.  

The crash occurred on Alabama 91 near Cullman County 501. 

The vehicle in question is believed to be a 2007-2014 white Chevrolet Silverado or a GMC Sierra with the entire passenger side black mirror missing from the vehicle.

CULLMAN, Ala. – A Hanceville teenager was killed in a hit-and-run incident Thursday night, Nov. 9. The victim was identified as Dakota R. Lamons, 19.

Authorities said Lamons was riding a bicycle along Alabama Highway 91 near County Road 501, when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene. The incident occurred at approximately 6:46 p.m. about 8 miles south of Hanceville.

Alabama State Troopers said Lamon was thrown from the bicycle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said, “At this time, we have limited information about the vehicle involved.”

Troopers said the vehicle is believed to be a white Chevrolet Silverado or a GMC Sierra, model years 2007-2014, missing its entire passenger-side black mirror. Anyone with information about the vehicle or incident is urged to contact ALEA Troopers at 256-353-0631.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
