CULLMAN, Ala. — Students from grades 3-5 at East Elementary School celebrated the arrival of fall recently be decorating their own pumpkins, as part of a harvest-themed art project at the Cullman city elementary school.

The East Elementary PTO provided pumpkins, and students had the opportunity to paint them in whatever style or design they wanted. The only requirement? Be creative.

“Since Halloween was over they could do designs, faces, or characters on their pumpkin,” Judy McBrayer, the elementary art teacher in Cullman City Schools, explained. “I gave them the primary colors and they were able to mix colors to create more options. They really got creative with stripes, faces and dots. There were silly faces, funny faces and some even chose spooky faces coming out of Halloween.”

McBrayer said students had a great time painting, and it provided an excellent opportunity for her young artists to get in the autumn mindset with a quintessential art project perfect for this time of year.
