CULLMAN, Ala. – In a significant development in a case that has been under investigation for over three years, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, that an arrest has been made in connection to the disappearance of Jeffery Glenn Wilhite, a 59-year-old Vinemont resident who went missing from the West Point community on April 3, 2020.

The details of the case were laid out in a press conference Wednesday when Sheriff Matt Gentry and Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker informed the media of the recent findings and actions. According to the information shared, investigators have been diligently working on the case since Wilhite’s reported disappearance.

The persistent efforts of CCSO investigators led to the accumulation of compelling evidence, which was subsequently presented to the grand jury.

The grand jury handed down an indictment for Randall Dewayne Hogan, 66, of Cullman. Hogan was arrested on Oct. 30, 2023, pursuant to the grand jury indictment. Hogan is charged with murder.

Currently, Hogan is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center and has been denied bond.

During the press conference, both the sheriff and the DA refrained from taking questions from the media. Citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation, they emphasized the importance of ensuring that all information is thoroughly verified and confirmed before it’s released to the public.

While the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the case, according to those at the press conference, the refusal to answer questions underscores the complex nature of the investigation and suggests that more details may yet emerge. As the case progresses and more details become available, it’s expected that further updates will be provided.
