CULLMAN, Ala. – Two local men are facing charges after separate, unrelated incidents that occurred on Sept. 28.

In the first incident, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies responded to a residence in the Holly Pond area for a welfare check.

Upon arrival, deputies encountered multiple individuals at the residence, including Rodolfo Flores Nava, 46, of Holly Pond. A subsequent investigation and search of the premises allegedly led to the discovery of various narcotics, which were allegedly in Nava’s possession.

Nava is being held at the Cullman County Detention Center with a bond set at $502,000. He faces charges of drug trafficking (methamphetamine, approximately 9 ounces), unlawful distribution of marijuana (approximately 1.5 ounces), unlawful possession of opium or a derivative, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of dangerous drugs. He also had a failure to appear warrant for domestic violence.

In the second incident, John Allen York, 32, of Cullman, an inmate at the Cullman County Detention Center, was arrested on additional charges. Previously detained earlier in the month for theft- and drug-related charges, among others, York allegedly became uncooperative and combative while being relocated within the detention center.

During the altercation, York allegedly damaged property and assaulted detention deputies by hitting, kicking and spitting on them. Medical services were provided on-site to all involved parties.

As a result of the incident, York now also faces charges of assault with bodily fluids.

“I am proud of the hard work and dedication of all of our deputies. Whether in the detention center or on patrol, our deputies work diligently every day to ensure the safety of Cullman County’s residents,” said Sheriff Matt Gentry.
