CULLMAN, Ala. – Sacred Heart School will host its annual German Festival this Saturday, Sept. 30. The festival kicks off at 10 a.m. on the school campus and runs until 7 p.m.

The first German Festival was held in the summer of 1977 at Sacred Heart School commemorating the school’s 100th anniversary.  Two years later, the City of Cullman Oktoberfest Committee was formed.  This Oktoberfest celebration has grown and has become an annual event for the school, the parish and the city of Cullman.

One of the festival’s highlights is the bingo extravaganza which will be played all day. There will be hourly prizes with the large prizes starting at 11 a.m. This will be held in the gym behind the school.

The festival will also have food concessions including barbecue, bratwurst, street corn and nachos. There will be bounce houses and cornhole available for kids to enjoy. A significant draw to the festival is the raffle, featuring a grand prize of $5,000. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased on the day of the event, with the drawing scheduled for 7 p.m.

Additionally, for those looking for German cuisine before the festival, the Church’s Alter Society will host a German dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at Sacred Heart. Take-out begins at 4 p.m., while dining in starts at 5 p.m. and continues until the food runs out.

Shawna Norman, Sacred Heart School principal, stated, “We are very excited to be able to host our German Festival bingo once again. We appreciate everyone’s support because all of the proceeds will go to benefit the children at our school.”

Sacred Heart School is located at 112 Second Ave. SE.
