FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Fairview High School hosted its Centennial Celebration on Saturday, April 12, beginning with a 5K Fun Run/Walk.

FHS Family and Consumer Science Teacher and Head Track and Field Coach Whitney Haynes, and seventh-grade Life Science Teacher Leslie Arnold said they were excited to host the Centennial race.

“We feel like we had a great turnout for our first year,” Haynes said. “The course was a course that we used years ago at the Purple and Gold Day for a Labor Day celebration. It was a great way to kick off the day to commemorate 100 years of Fairview High school.”

Arnold said a group of ladies came back from the FHS class of 1982.

“They came back to walk the fun run together, so it was really sweet to see cases like that where you have alumni that come back and spend time together,” she said. “They were able to see some things around campus they had not seen since they graduated so that was neat to see as well.”

Arnold said there were 84 participants, ranging in age from 5 to 71.

Winners were: Overall Male, Alex England, 17:57.53; Overall Female, Lauren Estes, 23:06.26; Male Masters, John Bozue, 20:36.44; and Female Masters, Emily Stapler, 24:08.40.

“A special thank you to Officer Blake Golden for ensuring the safety of our runners with the help of the Fairview and Gold Ridge Fire Departments and to our faculty and students that volunteered to guide the way of our runners,” Arnold said.

It was a beautiful sunny day on campus. The Fairview High School Centennial Celebration also included vendors, live entertainment and a Car, Truck, Tractor and Motorcycle Show.
