Youthful Cullman County calf was among the prize winning animals for the 4-H-FFA livestock show held last week. The calf was a 4-H club project, again being sponsored by local stock yards through commerce.
There are a thousand dollars over the quota, but have not stopped selling War Bonds and Stamps in the War Loan Drive in Cullman County. War Bond Committee members have been given authority to continue the sale of bonds in the War Loan Drive and by Wednesday afternoon $1,335,000 in war securities had been reported sold.
Many thank-you letters are including sweaters, mufflers, and handkerchiefs have been received by Mrs. J. M. Arnold from boys at Army Port of Embarkation, Third New York Port of Embarkation. These boys include: James M. Arnold, M. Arnold, Malcom Arnold, Wyn-ton Arnold, R. F. Arnold, Bobbie Arnold, J. B. Nance, Bobbie Nance, Mattie Nance, Inez Arnold, and numerous others. Mrs. Arnold has made her home at Mrs. E. H. Arnold and is doing a noble piece of work in sending these boxes of shipment. A shipment of kit bags was made this week with cotton and other items and Mrs. Arnold, Executive Secretary of the Red Cross and War Fund, requests donations for kit making by Saturday, April 14th.
Grand children of the late Mrs. Cullman County’s Bailey Stone, who are making their home in Cullman state, and likes to tell of the former’s many grand children and his daughter, Mrs. J. E. McAdory, and great grand children.
“At home” after 35 months overseas life” of T/Sgt. Leonard James Hanceville, Route 2, Cullman, is a happy state of affairs for him and wife. “Night fighter sent in a Jap Widow (night fighter)” as known to the men who worked with him in the Pacific warfare. He did not work with those Black Widows in the Pacific warfare. He did wear the Pacific Warfare Ribbon as well as the Asiatic-Pacific theatre and the good conduct Medal.
“For his superior low-level entries of full low level incendiary attack against shipping in the harbor of Shanghai, China, on night of Sept. 5,” Crawford Robey, husband of Ruby Mae Crawford, Route 2, Cullman, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Crawford, Hanceville has been commended in a letter from his commanding officer. “In days of those bombing raids from the B-29 bases in the Marianas, the Jap shipping in rivers of the ground echelons worked night and day to supply with supplies and men. Crawford Robey in the air and striking the empire forces was a menace.”
For the first time since he arrived overseas three years months ago, Pfc. Robert L. Cunningham recently drank a coca cola at a restaurant in Hanceville. “It sure hits the spot” Robert said between the lines for a rest of several days. Pfc. Cunningham and his parents, Route 2, Cullman, are at home on Route 2, Cullman.
During the past year that S/Sgt. Martin T. Bailey has been with the 15th Air Force in Italy, he completed 35 missions as a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He has been authorized to wear the Air Medal with 5 oak leaf clusters and has been authorized to wear the Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster in recognition of his meritorious conduct with her enemy. His wife, Mrs. Martin T. Bailey, is at home at Home Route.
“One eleven months old pullet is certainly laying out for food production,” sold County Agent H. H. Howze to a poultryman after getting an egg within an egg. This week Mr. Howze was around in his official capacity in the territory south of Route 1, Hanceville and Winston-Blount Co. line. (That was a monster double shell egg and the larger one also contained two yolks).
