CULLMAN, Ala. – The 41st annual Bloomin’ Festival took place this past weekend. While it was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, Sunday’s event was canceled due to inclement weather. However, after the cancellation was announced, online donations and raffle tickets brought in $14,000 in just the first hour, with donations and sales continuing into the afternoon. Saturday saw a huge turnout. From opening to closing, thousands of people visited the festival.
Vendors of all kinds displayed arts and crafts, and there was a wide array of festival food and music. The Bloomin’ Festival featured more than 150 talented artisans from across the South, eager to share their skills across the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey and Preparatory School. The festival serves as a significant fundraiser for the school. In addition to the festival, admission to the Ave Maria Grotto was just $5 per person.
Items available at the festival included (to name a very few) handcrafted pottery, handwoven baskets, brooms, Monk’s Bread, cheese straws and strawberry waffles. Artisan-made, gorgeous handmade jewelry, intricate woodwork and crocheted items were just some of the unique trinkets found among the hundreds of tents. While the weather was sunny and beautiful on Saturday, it was hot, but luckily, there were multiple handmade lemonade stands set up throughout the grounds for folks to get a refreshing drink.
Festival attendee Elizabeth Phillips shared that her favorite parts of the festival were the strawberry waffle booth, the chocolate lavender candy apples and her beautiful blue handmade bracelet she purchased from one of the vendors.
“I love coming to the Bloomin’ Festival every year. It’s become a tradition for me and my best friend,” Phillips shared.
