CULLMAN, Ala. – The owners of south Cullman-based Goat Island Brewing decided they knew a good thing when they saw it, and decided to open a second location closer to the heart of the city where they will be more accessible to the rapidly growing social life downtown. The new site at 417 Third Ave. SW Suite 135 in the Cotton Creek complex, opened on March 19, 2025.

“We opened the second location to have a downtown Cullman presence and to be part of the up-and-coming arts district of Cullman,” said Goat Island’s Mike Mullaney. “We also needed a pilot system. This location, with a smaller brew system, will allow us to create new and interesting beers.

“We will serve craft beer at Cotton Creek as well as occasionally have small acoustic players on our smaller stage. There is a large outdoor area with a stage for large events. We will not serve food, but as with the original location, we encourage people to bring their own or order in. We look forward to the Half Shell (Oyster House) restaurant opening next door which will allow us to have more options for food.”

What about the “old” location?

Mullaney said, “The new location will not change anything we do at the original location. We still have the big stage where we will have larger bands and the cool mystique of being right next to the larger manufacturing brew system.”

A second location means the folks at Goat Island must feel pretty good about where their business is going as they approach the nine-year mark this month. In fact, the brewery will hold an anniversary celebration on April 12, 2025, at its original location at 1646 John Cooper Dr. in Cullman.

“Goat Island Brewing is doing well,” said Mullaney. “Goat Island continues to grow our distribution footprint. We are in Nashville, Chattanooga, Georgia, Alabama and the panhandle of Florida.”

The brewery has recently introduced two new beers:

  • Goat Island Blonde, a collaboration with the Alabama/Northwest Florida section of the PGA. A portion of the proceeds from each beer goes to its golf charity, which promotes golf for underprivileged kids. Mullaney called the beer “an easy drinking classic American blonde ale.”
  • Strawberry Blonde Ale, released in time for the Alabama Strawberry Festival happening in Cullman later this month. Mullaney called it “a light blonde ale with a beautiful pink hue, and a refreshing ripe strawberry taste.”

The Goat at Cotton Creek is currently open Thursdays noon-9 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays noon-11 p.m. and Sundays noon-7 p.m. Those hours will expand when Half Shell Oyster House opens.
