FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Fairview took game one of its area series at Guntersville Tuesday night and they returned home to Mark Moore Field Thursday night to finish the series with the Wildcats. The Aggies dropped the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader 5-1 but bounced back to take the rubber match 6-3 and win the series.

Guntersville 5 – Fairview 1 (Game One)

It was scoreless going into the top of the second inning, and Guntersville struck first. They scored on a passed ball and later added an RBI double, as that gave them a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats loaded the bases to start out the third inning, and a fielder’s choice, plus an RBI double, helped them extend their lead to 4-0. Guntersville hit an RBI double to left field to put them ahead, 5-0, in the top of the fourth.

After being held scoreless through the first four innings, Fairview got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. Collin Nelson and Nicolas Gregory drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Later that inning, Conner Scott drew one of his own to load the bases with one out, and Camden Cullen hit a sacrifice fly to cut it to 5-1. Fairview couldn’t cut into the deficit any more after that, as they ended up dropping game one to the Wildcats 5-1.

Cullen drove in the only run of the game for the Aggies, and Jackson Earnest, Barrett York, and Gregory all collected a hit in the loss.

Fairview 6 – Guntersville 3 (Game Two)

Guntersville struck first in its opening at-bats. They hit a leadoff double and later scored on a ground ball to take the early lead. Neither team would score until the top of the third inning, as a pair of errors allowed the Wildcats to extend their lead to 2-0. Fairview’s offense got something going in their half of the third inning. Scott drew a leadoff walk, and Cullen reached on an infield single to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Colton Jennings launched a three-run home run over the left field fence to give the Aggies a 3-2 lead.

Fairview added to its lead in the fourth. Nelson drew a walk to lead off the inning, and a sacrifice bunt moved him over to third. Lincoln Wright hit an RBI double to left field to put them ahead, 4-2. The Aggies padded their lead even more in the fifth. Cullen led off the inning with a walk, and Jennings got hit by the pitch to put a pair of runners on base with nobody out. They moved up to second and third on a wild pitch, and Cullen scored on an error to make it 5-2. Jackson Earnest’s sacrifice fly brought home Jennings, as the lead quickly swelled to 6-2.

Guntersville put a runner on with one out in the top of the seventh and ended up scoring on an RBI double to trim the deficit to 6-3. A walk put a pair of runners on with two outs, but Ben Bryan collected a strikeout to end the game and help preserve the 6-3 win for Fairview.

Tanner Isbell went 6 1/3 innings, gave up just three hits and one earned run, walked three, and struck out six. Bryan gave up a hit, walked one, and struck out one in his 2/3 innings of work. Jennings finished with the three-run home run for Fairview, while Wright (one hit) and Earnest each collected an RBI in the win.
