
HOLLY POND, Ala. – After taking game one of its area series with the Broncos at home on Tuesday, Hanceville traveled to Holly Pond Wednesday to complete the series. The Bulldogs took game two 7-3 to secure the series win and completed the sweep with an 11-2 in game three.
Hanceville 7 – Holly Pond 3 (Game One)
Hanceville got out to a quick start against Holly Pond. Hunter Black reached on an error to lead off the game, and Gabriel Ognilla hit a single to left field to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Cody Belcher drew a walk to load the bases, and Jackson Howell knocked in a pair of runs on a single to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Later that inning, Belcher and Eder Herrera both scored on an error to extend their lead to 4-0.
Holly Pond got on the scoreboard in its half. Sawyer Olinger drew a four-pitch walk to lead off the inning. He stole second and moved up to third on a ground ball. He stole home to cut it to 4-1. Carson Ryan drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the third and after stealing second, he scored on an error on the next pitch to trim the deficit to 4-2. Three pitches later, Brody Howard lined an RBI single to right field to make it a one-run game.
Cordarryl Wilson reached on a one-out error in the top of the fourth inning for Hanceville. A single by Dalton Pirkle put runners on the corners with one out. Black singled to third base, and Ryan nailed Wilson at the plate, keeping it at a one-run game for the moment. After Black stole second, Ognilla drilled a two-run double to right field to put the Bulldogs ahead, 6-3. Three pitches later, an error allowed Hanceville to extend their lead to 7-3. Ognilla gave up a one-out single to Olinger in the bottom of the seventh, but he collected the final two outs of the game to help seal the 7-3 win for the Bulldogs.
Ognilla and Howell each finished with two hits and a pair of RBIs for Hanceville. Dalton Pirkle added a pair of hits, and Black collected a hit as well. Ognilla went the distance for the Bulldogs, as he gave up just four hits and one earned run, walked four, and struck out nine. For Holly Pond, Howard collected a hit and an RBI and Olinger, Jackson Miller and Ross Nelson all recorded a hit in the game.
Hanceville 11 – Holly Pond 2 (Game Two)
Holly Pond struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Carson Ryan drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on an error. A few pitches later, Boston Gibbs drilled an RBI double to center field to give the Broncos the early lead. Hanceville responded in the top of the second. Ashton Hurst got hit by the pitch to lead off the inning, and a wild pitch moved him up to second. He stole third and later scored on another wild pitch to tie the game up at one.
Holly Pond put a pair of runners on to lead off the bottom of the second, but Hanceville recorded the final three outs of the inning to keep the game deadlocked at one. The Bulldogs got something going offensively in the top of the third. A hit by pitch and an error put runners on first and second to lead off the inning, and a wild pitch moved both runners up to second and third. Jackson Howell hit a two-run single up the middle to give Hanceville a 3-1 lead.
Ryan led off the bottom of the third with a walk and he stole second. After a ground ball moved him over to third, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Brody Howard to cut the Bronco deficit to 3-2. Hanceville broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth. Back-to-back errors allowed Cody Belcher to score to put the Bulldogs ahead, 4-2, and another error made it 5-2.
Back-to-back RBI doubles by Hurst and Pirkle extended their lead to 7-2. Later that inning, Pirkle scored on an error to make it 8-2, then a two-run double by Ognilla extended their lead to 10-2. Howell added an RBI single with two outs to make it an 11-2 game. The Bulldogs collected the final three outs of the game to help seal their 11-2 win over Holly Pond.
Howell led the way for Hanceville with a pair of hits and three RBIs. Ognilla posted a hit and two RBIs, while Hurst and Pirkle each collected a hit and an RBI in the game. Belcher gave up just two hits and two earned runs, walked three, and struck out three in his three innings of work for the Bulldogs. Howell allowed just one hit across four shutout innings, walking two and striking out five. Gibbs (one hit) and Howard each finished with an RBI for Holly Pond.
