Ahead of an approaching upper-level system, winds this morning will begin to increase and, by afternoon, sustained at 10-15 mph with gusts from 15-30 mph north of I-20 and 15-25 mph south of I-20.  The upper-level system and associated cold front will produce a line of showers and thunderstorms entering the northwestern sections this evening and ending by late Monday afternoon or early evening in the southern sections.

A few storms may produce wind gusts from 40-60 mph and hail in the Slight and Marginal Risk areas as shown in the graphic above.  As the storms move into southern and eastern Alabama, the severe threat will end after 5 am Monday.

Then, as the line of showers and a few thunderstorms continues moving southward, a couple of storms may re-intensify in the far southern counties Monday afternoon, with wind gusts from 40-60 mph and hail possible.

For the entire event, widespread severe weather will not occur, and the tornado threat is both very low and unlikely.

Total rainfall will mainly be mainly 0.5 – 1.5 inches north of I-59 and 1 inch or less south of I-59.  No rainfall is forecast from Monday evening through at least next Friday.
