SOMERVILLE, Ala. – The Bearcats traveled to Brewer for a chilly varsity matchup with the Patriots Thursday night and Cullman returned home with a 4-2 win. It was the second win of the week for Cullman. On Tuesday, the Bearcats picked up a 6-2 win at Mortimer Jordan. Josue Sanchez scored a hat trick and added an assist. Brandon Peña scored two goals while Jack McDowell added another. Josie Viviesca and Reed Bissot also assisted in the win.

Thursday night against the Patriots, the ‘Cats took an early, 1-0 lead on a free kick from Josue Sanchez. Brewer was able to tie things up at 1 after scoring on a ball to the left corner that they slotted back across the box. Cullman responded with a goal from Jack McDowell to move back in front 2-1 just before halftime.

Brewer took advantage of a foul and a yellow card against the Bearcats near midfield, hitting the ball long into the box and scoring to tie the game at 2.

Later in the second half, Grayson Meharg came on and put one in the back of the net off a pass across the box from Gianpaolo Cipollari to make it a 3-2 game. The ‘Cats put the game away with a goal from Brandon Peña, also assisted by Gianpaolo Cipollari, wrapping up a 4-2 road win.

The Bearcats are 11-3 and are on the way to their best season since the 2017. They are currently just two wins away from the most wins they’ve posted in the last eight seasons and are sitting atop the area standings at 3-0 with three area games remaining.

“We closed out this first half of the season strong this week. We’ve gone deep in the roster. We feel that, in games and in practice both,” Cullman Head Coach Will Drake said. “All the boys train with intensity and with focus, and they bring that to the games. Every one of them contributes something important to the team. It’s an exciting moment to be a part of, every player believing in the program and our methods and giving themselves for the badge on the shirt.”

After spring break, the Bearcats will head to Boaz to play the Pirates on April 1.
