PREP SOFTBALL: Fairview blanks Holly Pond 10-0, Thursday scoring recap

FAIRVIEW, Ala. — Fairview hosted the Holly Pond Lady Broncos on a cold, windy Thursday afternoon and the Lady Aggies dominated this one, jumping out to an early lead and taking advantage of a great pitching performance from Mali Gregory to put together a 10-0 shutout win.

Emily Benson drew a leadoff walk to lead off the bottom of the first for the Lady Aggies. She stole second and moved up to third on a passed ball, then a sacrifice fly by Kylie Kovar gave them the early lead. After another walk, Ayda Payne lined an RBI single to left field to make it 2-0. Fairview quickly broke the game wide open in the second.

They put a pair of runners on with one out, then an RBI single by Benson gave them a 3-0 lead. Kovar added an RBI double, and Ava Pruett hit a two-run double to put the Lady Aggies ahead, 6-0. One out later, Addison Phillips lined an RBI single to right field to extend their lead to 7-0. Fairview made it 8-0 in the third on an RBI double by Benson. Ralie Gaines added an RBI double of her own in the fourth to make it 9-0. The Lady Aggies ended the game in their final at-bats. They put runners on the corners to lead off the fifth, and a passed ball allowed Benson to score to give Fairview the 10-0 shutout win over the Lady Broncos.

Benson and Kovar each finished with three hits and two RBIs for the Lady Aggies. Pruett collected a hit and two RBIs, while Gaines (two hits), Payne (one hit), and Phillips (one hit) all drove in a run in the win. Mali Gregory pitched a three-hit shutout, as she walked one and struck out four. For Holly Pond, Maggie Nail finished with a pair of hits and Jaycee Hankins added a hit of her own in the game.

Sumiton Christan 4 – Cold Springs 0 (Baseball)

Sumiton Christian 13 – Cold Springs 3 (Baseball)

Cold Springs got no-hit in the first game of their doubleheader at Sumiton Christian. The second game saw them get out to a quick lead. They loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first, and Boston Archer drew a walk to give Cold Springs the early lead. A few pitches later, Mason Gable lined a two-run single to right field to make it 3-0. Their lead would be short-lived, though, as Sumiton Christian would score the final 13 runs of the game, and Cold Springs ended up dropping the second game to Sumiton Christian 13-3.

Gable finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs for Cold Springs. Archer added an RBI, while Ayden Black, Cooper Johnson, and Matt Williams all collected a hit in the loss.

Cold Springs 5 – Meek 3 (Softball)

A sacrifice fly by Meek put them on the scoreboard first in its opening at-bats, but Cold Springs would respond in their half. Kaydance Williams hit a one-out single and later scored on an error to tie the game up at one. Two pitches later, Adriana Young drove in a run on a ground ball to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead. Back-to-back doubles by Brooke Rowan and Sadie Smith extend their lead to 3-1.

Meek hit an RBI single in the top of the fifth to cut it to a one-run game, and in the seventh, they tied the game up at three on an RBI double. The Lady Eagles looked to end things in their final at-bats. Young lined a single to left field to lead off their half of the seventh. Kloe Light, the pinch runner for Young, stole second. Maddie Davis drew a walk, and Light moved up to third on a passed ball. Four pitches later, Smith ended the game, as her two-run walk-off triple gave Cold Springs the 5-3 win over the Lady Tigers.

Smith finished with three hits and three RBIs for the Lady Eagles. Young added a hit and two RBIs. Aleah Addison, Williams, and Rowan all posted a pair of hits and Cheyenne Bishop collected a hit of her own in the win.

Jasper 4 – Cullman 2 (Softball)

Hattie Graham reached on a one-out error in Cullman’s opening at-bats, and one out later, Reese Hopper lined a two-run home run over the center field fence to give the Lady Bearcats the early 2-0 lead. Jasper cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the second on an RBI single. A pair of RBI doubles gave the Lady Vikings a 3-2 lead in the third, and they added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to make it 4-2. Cullman put a pair of runners on base with two outs in the seventh, but a strikeout ended the game and they dropped a heartbreaker to Jasper 4-2.

Hopper (two-run home run) finished with the only hit and RBIs in the game for the Lady Bearcats.

Good Hope 21 – East Lawrence 5 (Softball)

Good Hope’s offense went off in their game against East Lawrence, as a 10-run first inning helped them roll past the Lady Eagles in a dominating win on the road.

Kylee Smith had a huge game at the plate, as she finished five-for-five with a game-high five RBIs. Haley Lay (two hits), Addyson Burgess (two hits) and Brooklyn Lambert (one hit) all drove in three runs. Lizzy Steed added three hits and a pair of RBIs. Maggie O’Neil (two hits), Campbell Koch (one hit), Natalie Miller (one hit) and Gracie Garmon (one hit) all finished with an RBI in the win.

Oak Grove 10 – Hanceville 6 (Softball)

Hanceville got off to a quick start offensively. Kynzlee Farr got hit by the pitch to lead off the game and later scored on an error to give them the early lead. Bella Spinks hit an RBI double to make it 2-0. Later that inning, Zoe Pitts hit an RBI single, and Peyton Mariano scored on an error to extend the Lady Bulldog lead to 4-0. Their lead would be short-lived, though, as Oak Grove put up six runs in their half to take a 6-4 lead into the second inning.

A pair of sacrifice flies by Josi Jones and Spinks tied the game up at six in the top of the second. That would be the last runs they would score in the game, as the Lady Tigers scored the final four runs of the game, and they would go on to knock off Hanceville 10-6.

Spinks led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with a hit and two RBIs, while Pitts (one hit) and Jones each drove in a run in the loss.

West Point 9 – Russellville 6 (Softball)

West Point struck first in its opening at-bats. Lauren Windham hit a single on the first pitch that she saw, then Katie Beth Yovino hit the first pitch she saw over the center field fence to give the Lady Warriors a 2-0 lead. They added to their lead in the top of the third. They put a pair of runners on with one out, and Brayley Phillips lined a two-run double to center field to extend their lead to 4-0. One out later, Cabri Blackwood hit an RBI triple to right field to make it 5-0.

Their lead quickly evaporated in the bottom of the third, as Russellville scored five runs to tie the game up at five. West Point quickly broke the tie in the top of the fourth. They loaded the bases to lead off the inning, and Windham’s sacrifice fly gave the Lady Warriors a 6-5 lead. Yovino hit an RBI single, and Phillips followed that up with a sacrifice fly to put West Point ahead 8-5. The Lady Golden Tigers trimmed the deficit to 8-6 in the bottom of the sixth.

Macie Brown led off the West Point seventh with a home run over the center field fence to make it 9-6. Russellville put a pair of runners on to lead off the seventh, but three straight fly outs ended the game, and the Lady Warriors held off the Lady Golden Tigers to earn a 9-6 win.

Yovino went four-for-four with three RBIs for West Point. Phillips added a hit and three RBIs. Windham (two hits), Brown (solo home run) and Blackwood (one hit) all drove in a run in the win.

Lawrence County 11 – West Point 1 (Baseball)

It would be all Lawrence County in their game against West Point, as the Red Devils quickly broke open a tie game in the third inning. The Warriors would go on to drop their game to Lawrence County 11-1.

Hunter Graves finished with a hit and the only RBI of the game for West Point.
