GOOD HOPE, Ala. – A Cullman County man is now facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the death of a man in Good Hope last month.
On Wednesday, March 19, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Gregory Wayne Aycock, 55, of Cullman, on a new charge in connection with the death of Anthony Mark Sturgeon, 29, of Cullman. Sturgeon’s body was found at a Good Hope park on Saturday, Feb. 8.
According to court documents, Aycock was previously charged with first-degree hindering prosecution and corpse abuse.
Court documents state: “On or about February 7, 2025, while at or near 2445 County Road 437, Cullman, County, Alabama, a person committed the crime of hindering the prosecution in the first degree with the intent to hinder the apprehension, prosecution, conviction or punishment of another for conduct constituting a murder or a Class A or B felony, to-wit: DISPOSING OF BODY BY AIDING INVOLVMENT THAT PROVIDED FENTANYL, in violation of 13A-6-3, MANSLAUGHTER, in violation of 13A-10-43, Code of Alabama.”
And, “On or about February 7, 2025, while at or near 2445 County Road 437, Cullman County, Alabama, committed the crime of abuse of a corpse, he knowingly treated a human corpse in a way that would outrage ordinary family sensibilities, to-wit: THOWING OUT A BODY AT A PUBLIC PARK FROM A VEHICLE, in violation of 13A-11-13, Code of Alabama.”
Sturgeon’s body was found at a Good Hope park Saturday, Feb. 8. His body was identified by Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick.
Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry told The Tribune in February, “Preliminary indications are believed to be a drug overdose. It is believed that Aycock moved the body in question.”
Aycock is currently being held at the Cullman County Detention Center without bond.
