
FAIRVIEW, Ala. – After taking care of business on the road against Guntersville, the Fairview Lady Aggies looked to keep that momentum going at home against Scottsboro on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats had other plans though and they jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back, defeating Fairview19-2 after four innings.
Scottsboro batted around in the first inning and scored six runs to take the early lead. Fairview looked to counter in their half. Ava Pruett hit a two-out single, and Ayda Payne crushed a two-run home run over the left field fence to cut it to 6-2. The Lady Wildcats would take over after that, scoring the final 13 runs of the game, and they ended up defeating the Lady Aggies 19-2.
Payne finished with the two-run home run for Fairview, while Pruett and Ralie Gaines each added a hit in the loss.
Cold Springs 7 – Locust Fork 6 (Baseball)
Cold Springs didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard in its opening at-bats. Brady Phillips got hit by the pitch to lead off the game and later scored on an error to give them the early lead. Cooper Johnson got hit by the pitch, then back-to-back RBI singles by Matt Williams and Lindan Hill extended their lead to 3-0. Williams later scored to make it 4-0, and Hill later scored on a wild pitch to give them a 5-0 lead.
Locust Fork trimmed the deficit to 5-3 in the top of the third and later added another run in the fifth to make it a one-run game. The Eagles put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Hill scored on a balk, and Elijah Cole drove in a run on a ground ball to make it 7-4. The Hornets cut it to 7-6 in the top of the seventh, but a ground ball ended the game, and Cold Springs would go on to hold off Locust Fork 7-6.
Hill (two hits) and Williams (one hit) each drove in a run for the Eagles, and Cole collected an RBI of his own in the win.
Cold Springs 16 – Holly Pond 6 (Softball)
Maggie Nail led off the Holly Pond first with a single and later scored on a ground ball by Alaina Folds to give them the early lead. Cold Springs responded in a big way in the top of the second. Aiden Freeman hit an RBI double and later scored on an error to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead. Later that inning, Kaydance Williams lined a two-run double to right field to make it 4-1. She would later score on an error to extend their lead to 5-1.
A two-run double by Bryanna Holloway and a pair of RBI doubles by Nail and Folds tied the game up at five in the Lady Bronco half of the second. Cold Springs broke the tie in the top of the third. Sadie Smith hit an RBI single, Brooke Rowan stole home, Smith scored on a wild pitch, and Williams hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to give them a 10-5 lead. Holly Pond cut it to 10-6 in their half on an RBI single by Morgan Campbell. A two-run single off the bat of Smith and an RBI single by Addie Kilgo stretched the Lady Eagle lead to 13-6 in the top of the fourth.
Cloe Shelton scored on a wild pitch, and Adriana Young and Brooklyn Ingram each scored on a wild pitch to put Cold Springs on top 16-6 and that’s when the game was stopped due to rain.
Hoover 8 – Cullman 4 (Softball)
Hoover jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the third, but Cullman got on the scoreboard in their half. Three straight walks loaded up the bases with one out, and Samantha Johnson drew one of her own to make it 4-1. The Lady Buccaneers put up three runs in the top of the fourth to stretch their lead to 7-1. Dracen Bates hit a leadoff double in the Lady Bearcat half. Mattie Smith reached on a dropped third strike, and that allowed Bates to score to make it 7-2. Later that inning, Hattie Graham hit a two-run double to left field to trim the deficit to 7-4. Hoover added a run in the fifth to make it 8-4, and Cullman couldn’t cut anymore into the deficit after that, as they would go on to drop their game to the Lady Buccaneers 8-4.
Graham finished with a hit and two RBIs for the Lady Bearcats, and Johnson drove in a run in the loss.
Vinemont 4 – Hanceville 1 (Softball)
Haley Millwood hit a two-run, two-out double to give Vinemont a 2-0 lead in its opening at-bats. Hanceville cut into the deficit in the bottom of the third. Kynzlee Far reached on an error, and Karrigan Pipkin lined the first pitch she saw into center field for an RBI double to make it a one-run game. Bryleigh Basinger walked to lead off the Lady Eagle sixth, and Arleigh Thomason drove her in on an RBI single to make it 3-1. Abby Kuykendall scored in the top of the seventh to extend Vinemont’s lead to 4-1, and Tori Vines struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to help seal the 4-1 win for the Lady Eagles.
Millwood finished with a hit and a pair of RBIs for Vinemont, and Thomason added a hit and an RBI of her own in the win. Vines went the distance for the Lady Eagles, as she allowed just two hits and one unearned run and struck out eight. For Hanceville, Pipkins collected a pair of hits and an RBI.
Vinemont 8 – Danville 0 (Baseball)
It was all Vinemont in their game against Danville, as they ended up shutting out the Hawks 8-0.
Owen McKinney hit an RBI single in Vinemont’s opening at-bats to give them the early lead. Tucker Mauter scored in the top of the second, and Kayden Henderson later added a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Hayden Robinson drove in a run on a bunt single in the top of the third to extend the Eagle lead to 4-0. A suicide squeeze play by Rush Sandlin brought home another run, Josh Rhodes hit a solo home run, and Henderson added a two-run double to make it 8-0. Due to weather, the game was cut short, and Vinemont would go on to shut out Danville 8-0.
Henderson finished with a hit and three RBIs for the Eagles. McKinney (one hit), Rhodes (solo home run), and Sandlin all drove in a run in the win.
