PREP BASEBALL: Aggies win county clash at West Point 10-2

WEST POINT, Ala. – Fairview made the trip to West Point for a county matchup with the Warriors Wednesday night and the Aggies racked up 14 hits on their way to a 10-2 road win. Jaxon Robertson got the start on the mound and pitched a complete game to earn the win. Robertson allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out four.

After a scoreless first inning, Fairview jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second. Camden Cullen knocked a single into center field and Connor Scott drew a walk to put a pair of runners on base. Carson Jones ripped a single into right field to drive in Cullen and put the Aggies in front 1-0. Two pitches later, Lincoln Wright lifted a double into left field to plate Scott and Jones and stretch the lead to 3-0. Wright scored on an error a few pitches later and Fairview went into the bottom of the second with a 4-0 lead. All of the Aggies runs came with two outs.

Charlie Ashley led things off for the Warriors with a single up the middle and Jay Lamar drew a walk to put a pair of runners on. Brayden Eaton came in to run for Ashley and both he and Lamar advanced on a ground ball later in the inning. Eaton scored on a wild pitch to trim the lead to 4-1 but a strikeout ended the inning before West Point could do any more damage.

Fairview added to its lead in the top of the third. Nic Gregory led off the inning with a single to left field and Cullen drove a into left a few pitches later to plate Gregory and make it a 5-1 game. Scott drew a walk and Cullen scored on a fielder’s choice later in the inning to make it 6-1. Wright put another run on the board with an RBI double into left field, giving the Aggies a 7-1 headed to the bottom of the third.

Both teams settled in defensively over the next two innings, but Fairview tacked on two more runs to move ahead 9-1 in the top of the sixth with an RBI single from Gregory and an RBI double off the bat of Soctt. Titan Thornton led off the bottom half of the sixth with a single and Ashley drove him in to score with a double later in the inning to make it a 9-2 game. The Aggies got the run back with an RBI double from Colton Jennings in the top of the seventh, extending the lead to 10-2 going into the final frame. Cooper Howard led off the bottom of the seventh with a double and Carter McAfee singled to give West Point a pair of runners, but Robertson struck out the next two Warriors he faced to wrap up a 10-2 win for Fairview.

Jackson Earnest and Cullen (one RBI) both posted three hits in the win. Wright finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Gregory added a pair of hits and RBI and Jones finished with a hit and two RBIs.

Ashley (one RBI) and McAfee each posted a pair of hits for West Point.

Fairview will be back on the road Thursday to play Homewood and West Point will travel to Vinemont to play the Eagles on Friday.
