ADDISON, Ala. — Addison hosted this year’s Winston County Baseball Tournament Saturday night, and it went quite well for the hometown Bulldogs. Addison dominated in both of its games, handling Winston County 15-5 in game one and downing Lynn in the title game 15-3.

Addison 15 – Winston County 5 (Game One)

After Bulldog pitcher Kiah Lake got the Jackets out in the first inning, Addison’s offense put up four runs to go up 4-0 after one inning. Addison scored four runs on just one hit. They took advantage of a couple walks, a hit batter and an error. It was a precursor to what would come.

The Bulldogs hung eight runs on the Jackets in the second to take a 12-0 lead.  Addison stole five bases in the inning and had doubles by Lane Stewart, Kiah Lake, Carter Pratt and Tucker Thompson.

The Jackets didn’t give up as they came back in the top of the third inning with three runs of their own.  Addison put another run on the board in the bottom of the third as they scored on a wild pitch. So, after three innings, Addison had a commanding 13-3 lead.

The fourth and fifth innings had WCHS plating two runs while Addison scored one. With Addison leading 14-5 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and needing one run to end the game, Kaden Dyson came up to bat. Dyson walked and then stole his fourth and fifth base of the game. With Dyson on third and two outs, the Jacket pitcher had a wild pitch which scored Dyson for the 10-run rule win, 15-5.

Carter Pratt got the win in relief, pitching the final 3.2 innings, giving up one earned run. Offensively the Bulldogs were led by Dyson going 1-3 with 2 walks, 4 runs scored and 5 stolen bases. Tucker Thompson went 2-4 with a double, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Jaxson Williams was hit by a pitch his first three times at bat and scored all three times he was hit. Addison stole 17 bases in the game.

Lynn 12 – Meek 2 (Game Two)

The Bears jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and one out, a wild pitch scored the first run. Connor Tittle then singled in a run. Jon Jordan then doubled in two. The score stayed 4-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning. Meek’s Connor Lane walked and then stole second and third. Aidan Benson then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Lane. Dawson Beasley walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Luke Rector slashed a single which scored Beasley to cut the Bear lead to 4-2.

The Bears put the Tigers away for all intents and purposes in the top of the 5th. The first two Bears walked then David Uptain singled home a run. Hunter Ellis then doubled home another run for a 6-2 lead. After getting an out, Austin Dodd brought in a run with another hit. The final two runs of the inning were scored on a fielder’s choice and a single. At the end of the inning, the Bears had made a close game not so close at 11-2.

The Bears closed it out in the top of the sixth, as Uptain reached on an error then stole two bases. Ellis brought him home with a single and that gave the Bears the 12-2 ten run lead. Meek couldn’t answer in the bottom of the sixth and the Bears took the victory.

Lynn’s Dodd went 1-3 with 2 walks, 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. Dylan Dunagan went 4 innings on the mound to get the victory. He also went 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Tittle went 2-3, 1 walk, 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Ellis went 2-3 with 3 RBIs, a double, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk.  Meek’s Ethan Miles went 1-3. Lane went 0-2 with a run scored and 2 steals. Beasley went 0-1 with 2 walks and a run scored. Rector went 1-3 with a RBI.

Addison 15 – Lynn 3 (Championship Game)

What promised to be a close game turned out to be over after the second inning. Lynn took the early lead after Jordan reached on a Bulldog error; two singles later plated him for the Bears to take the 1-0 lead. That was pretty much all the good that Lynn would take from this game. The first two Addison batters were hit by the ball. A wild pitch later advanced the runners and then a Lane Stewart groundout scored the first Bulldog run. Another walk and then a Kiah Lake single scored another run. One wild pitch later scored another run, and Carter Pratt scored another run with a single. With two outs now, Cole Thompson knocked in the final Bulldog run with a single of his own. Addison sent ten men to the plate and scored five runs to take a 5-1 lead after one.

Holding Lynn scoreless in the top of the second allowed the Addison bats to remain hot. Again, the first two Bulldogs walked and after a strikeout, Lake singled again bringing in a run. Kaden Dyson doubled to bring home a run to give Addison the 8-1 lead. A wild pitch plated another run. Carter Pratt singled again, scoring the last Bulldog run of the second. At the end of two, Addison had a commanding 9-1 lead.

Addison’s Lake was dominant on the mound as he cruised through the third.  The Bulldogs buried the Bears with a six run third. Addison’s leadoff man struck out but advanced to second on a dropped third strike and an error on the catcher. After a walk put Bulldogs on first and third, another walk loaded the bases. The Bear pitcher got a strikeout but then his defense let him down. Lake crushed a ball to deep center and the outfielder dropped the ball allowing two Bulldogs to score. Dyson followed the error up with a line drive single to left to score two more Bulldogs. Carter Pratt brought home the last Bulldog with another single and Addison led 15-2 after three innings.

Addison’s Lake was obviously tiring as this was his second start of the night.  Lake went 2.2 innings in the opener, and he worked a solid four in the second game. Lake gave up a run in the fourth and gave the Bulldogs a solid effort on the evening.

With Addison leading 15-3, going into the top of the fifth, Lynn had to score at least three runs, but Tucker Thompson came on in relief and shut down the Bears to preserve the victory, allowing only one hit.

Addison’s Stone Talley went 1-2 with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Lane Stewart went 0-2 with 2 walks, an RBI and 2 runs scored with a stolen base. Lake went 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Dyson went 2-3 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBIs and a walk. Carter Pratt went 3-3 with a run scored, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Casen Hill scored 3 runs.

Addison Head Coach Lee Williams,

“This is how good this team can play and how we should play every night.  Lynn is a good quality team, and we took care of business tonight. We have battled through injuries this year and some of the kids are playing hurt. I am proud of my guys because they have met adversity and still competed and came out on top. It feels good to be county champs especially since how we played last year. We made it to the championship game last year and didn’t show up. I think we learned from that experience.”
