St. Bernard Prep recognizes Abigail “Abby” McBride, who recently signed a volleyball scholarship to play for Bevill State College in Fayette, Alabama. McBride plans to pursue a degree in exercise science and nutrition while continuing her athletic career at the collegiate level.

A dedicated student-athlete, McBride ranks among the top five students in her senior class, balancing a rigorous academic schedule that includes Advanced Placement (AP) courses in English, government, calculus and literature. she has also served as vice-president of the senior class, demonstrating her commitment to leadership and service within the school community.

McBride’s passion for sports extends beyond volleyball. She has received All-Area Volleyball honors and achieved a second-place finish in the hurdles at the Alabama State Track Meet. In addition to her school team participation, she plays travel volleyball with Premier Volleyball Club, with three of the eight teammates receiving volleyball scholarships.

Outside of her academic and athletic commitments, McBride enjoys spending time outdoors. She works during the summer at the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic Center and WildWater as a swim instructor and lifeguard and also babysits for local families. “Summer is my favorite season. I love tanning and being in the sun,” she shared.

A lifelong Catholic school student, McBride moved to Cullman from Houston, Texas, when she was in the seventh grade. She and her family are active in their faith community, attending Mass with the Benedictine monks on Sundays and participating in youth group activities at Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday nights. Family is at the heart of McBride’s life, and she cherishes time spent with her parents and four siblings. She is the second of five children in the McBride family to attend St. Bernard, following in the footsteps of her older sister, Madilyn (Class of 2022), with younger siblings Caroline, Jonathan and Mary Catherine continuing the tradition.

McBride credits her mother as her greatest inspiration. “My mom spends all of her time raising our family, and she has probably taught me the most about life,” McBride said. “She once told me, ‘Life’s not fair; get used to it,’ and I’ve carried that lesson with me.”

As she prepares for this next chapter, McBride leaves her fellow students at St. Bernard with a valuable piece of advice: “Surround yourself with people who make you want to do better — not only in the classroom but in athletics, too.”

St. Bernard Preparatory School congratulates McBride on her accomplishments and looks forward to seeing her excel at Bevill State College.
