It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Harold Oden II, affectionately known as Bill, on Monday, February 24, 2025. He was born March 26, 1957. Bill was a cherished friend to many and a beloved member of our community.

Bill’s first career was in the poultry industry where he spent many years working for Tyson Foods. His later years were spent using his exceptional talent in woodworking. He had an uncanny ability to transform and refurbish fine pieces of antique furniture, bringing new life to cherished heirlooms. Much of his success was from saving and keeping old pieces of wood that he would use in the restoration of fine antiques. People came from miles around seeking his skillful craftsmanship, trusting him with their most treasured pieces.

A lover of nature, Bill found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially in watching hummingbirds that were attracted to the many feeders he kept around his home. His varied collection of wind chimes added sweet sounds to the areas outside his home, especially on breezy days. His love for the outdoors, especially mornings, extended to his passion for fishing, a pastime he eagerly looked forward to. The tranquility of nature and the thrill of catching fish brought him immense happiness.

Bill was also a dedicated and loving son. He faithfully took care of his mother and father through their years of poor health, doing so willingly and lovingly. His unselfish devotion was a testament to his compassionate nature.

Bill’s kindness, generosity, and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of friendship and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts and homes of those he touched.

Bill is survived by his sister, Sabrina Oden Buettner and her husband, Jeff; his niece, Natalie Oden Hope, her husband, Kyle, their two children, Ollie and Walt; and his brother-in-law, Jeff Underberg. Bill had a wealth of friends he enjoyed, and a dog named Pugly that brought him much laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Harold Oden, and his sister, Carmen Oden Underberg.

A visitation for Bill will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, 1901 2nd Avenue, N.W., Cullman, Alabama 35055. Following the visitation will be a graveside memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at Cullman City Cemetery, 812 9th Ave SW, Cullman, Alabama 35055.
