FAIRVIEW, Ala. — Fairview senior Karlie English feels blessed to have God in her life and in this interview, she shared some of her favorite Bible verses and experiences.

“God means everything to me. No matter what happens, He will love us, even if we have denied Him. He never judges us nor forsakes us. With God, all things are possible, but without Him, we will fail. Being able to always look at His word and what He says about me has helped me in many ways when going through hard times. He is always there for us, and we are never alone when we have God by our side. I think if everyone tried to be more like Christ just a little bit each day, we would have so much more happiness in our world,” English said. “Some of my favorites are Colossians 3:23: ‘Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men’, Psalm 21:11: ‘Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed’, and Matthew 19:26: ‘With man, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible’.”

Karlie wants to help more people find God and she also wants to make sure that they find a role model in Jesus Christ himself.

“It’s very important to me, because some people are not raised with Christ in their childhood, and everyone deserves to know the gift that God has given us. It’s also very important to me, because everyone deserves to know that they can be saved and forgiven of their sins, and live eternal life in heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” she said. “For me, it’s not about being their role model. It’s about helping them find a role model in Jesus and His actions.”

Karlie grew up in a Christian household and her family has helped her every step of the way when it came to reading God’s word. Her favorite Godly role model has always been there for her, no matter what was going on in her life.

“I have been very blessed to have grown up in a Christian household, and my family has always been able to help me remember, even with any troubles I might have, the word of God will always stand firm,” she said. “I definitely have to say my mother. No matter what, she always finds a way to be at peace and stay positive. She focuses on God’s word and not everyone else’s. She has always been there for me in my hard times to help me remember what God says about me and how I should react to situations the way Jesus would.”

She gave advice to those people who might be struggling when it comes to trying to have a relationship with God.

“Definitely read your Bible and pray, but don’t just read a bunch of verses and then shut your Bible. Read smaller portions at a time and then, really study and think about how that verse might relate to you or how it could mean something to someone else. Praying to God is just like talking to your friend, but God already knows everything,” English said. “He just wants you to talk to Him about it. Another thing I would say is to be bold in prayer. Don’t beat around the bush or anything. Just say what it is that you need or want, and just keep praying for it, because God will either give it to you at the right time, or He will show you that you don’t need it. God is our friend, and reading His word is how we learn to treat Him right.”

Karlie has learned so much during her journey so far.

“I have learned to not to dwell on my past and not to worry about what people say about me. The only person that I need to care about what they think of me is God. If I know that God would be happy with a choice that I made, then it doesn’t matter what other people think,” English said. “I have definitely made mistakes as everyone does, but God has shown me that it doesn’t matter what my past looks like. It only matters what I do with my future and how I can help others know and love Christ like me. I once heard someone say on social media, ‘The devil knows your name but calls you by our sin, God knows your sin and calls you by name.’ That quote has stuck with me ever since.”
