Obituary: Michael Gene Speegle

Funeral service for Michael Gene Speegle, 80, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Cullman City Cemetery, Revs. Steve Rodgers and Kerry Cleghorn are officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home and the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. before the service on Wednesday. 

Cullman Funeral Home is honored to serve the family. 

Michael was born on November 26, 1944, to Gaston Mitchell and Velma Louise Hendrix Speegle. Mr. Speegle loved restoring antique cars and was the owner of Speegle’s Upholstery Shop, in Cullman, since 1981. He was an avid Alabama football fan, and he coached a successful men’s softball team for many years. He was a long-term member of Seventh Street Baptist Church and presently a member of Baldwin Heights Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Elton Speegle, Lee Speegle and Euell Speegle. 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean Ray Speegle; son, Eric (Susan) Speegle; daughters, Donna (Terry) Smith, Renee (Mike ) Woods and Amanda (David) McCravy; grandchildren, Karra Smith, Katie (Clint) Chalkley, Mackenzie (Andrew) McKoy, Madison (Austin) Fullilove, Kyle (Summer) Speegle, Abby (Lawson) Alexander, Lane (McKenna) Denney, Eli Denney, Shayla (Caleb) Waldner; 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends. 

Pallbearers will be Danny Speegle, Josh Morgan, E.J. Carter, Marty Hardman, Caleb Waldner, Eli Denney, Kyle Speegle, Stan Smith, Cason Kretzschmar, Reburn Miller and Lane Denney.
