Funeral service for Elgin Luther Guthrie, 74, of Cullman will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Cullman Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Lystra Baptist Cemetery, Rev. John Garrison officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Elgin went home to be with the Lord in Heaven on February 18, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born on July 1,1950, in Cullman County to H.R. and Lois Marie Guthrie. Mr. Guthrie was a member of Lystra Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran, retiring as Sgt. 1st Class after 28 years of active service. He was a graduate of Fairview High School, class of 1968.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene Guthrie, Elvin Guthrie and Edis Guthrie; sisters, Vivialene Moon, Imogene Nelms, Eldagene Roberson and Anita Guthrie.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Bobbie White Guthrie; daughter, Rhonda (Edwin) Hogan; grandsons, Brett (Lauren) Hogan and Blake Hogan; brother, Harlie Elwin (Cheryl) Guthrie; sisters, Willodean Jones and Sherry (Tony) Graves; a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and church family.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Lystra Baptist Church building fund. Donations may be sent to 292 County Road 1693, Cullman, AL 35058.
Pallbearers will be Brett Hogan, Blake Hogan, Brad Stapler, Corey Sizemore, David Chambers and Richard Chambers.
