CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday shared the City’s financial report for the first quarter of FY 2025, October through December 2024, noting a slight decrease in revenues but a substantial decrease in expenses. Revenues dropped by $179,201 or 1.2%, while decreased capital spending brought expenses down by $3,045,603, or 18.7%.
City revenues from sales tax, property tax, sanitation charges, business licenses, internet sales tax, beer/wine tax and tobacco tax increased. Revenues from liquor tax, rental tax and court fines decreased.
Council President Jenny Folsom noted that final financial numbers from the 2024 Christkindlmarkt have not come in yet, and are expected to offer a big boost to the revenue totals for December and the first quarter. Those numbers should be available at the council’s next meeting. Additionally, City Clerk Wes Moore reported that the first month of 2025 saw an increase in revenues.
The report also showed that, as of December, Cullman County’s unemployment rate was 2.7%, tied for fourth lowest in the state, and the city’s consumer price index was 2.8%.
The Cullman City Council meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in the city hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
