HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Wallace State Lions opened the 2025 season with a double header against Frontier Community College (Fairfield, IL) Friday afternoon and they’re off to a 2-0 start. Wallace took game one over the Bobcats 3-1 and cruised to an 8-0 win in a rain-shortened game two.
Wallace State 3 – Frontier 1 (Game One)
In the top of the second, Ty Becker for Frontier was walked on just four pitches. A strike or two later Becker was left on base as Frontier struggled to get on the board.
It seemed like the offense for Wallace got going in the third, Jamie Howze had a base hit at the bottom of the third and the Lions were able to keep the momentum going to take a 3-0 lead.
Frontier finally got in the board in the sixth inning, but Wallace was able to hold on and take game one, 3-1.
Wallace State 8 – Frontier 0 (Game Two)
Three outs to start for Frontier, no score at the top. Wallace got a couple runners on in the bottom of the first but couldn’t get anything going score wise. Wallace State defensively in the field had something going early that helped despite a scoreless first inning.
Connor Hensley hit a double in the second, but the Lions weren’t able to get any runs out of it. Wallace State had only one hit through three innings, but good pitching slowed down Frontier and kept the Bobcats off the board. A huge home run in the bottom of the fifth put the Lions up 1-0 and the flood gates opened after that as Wallace went on to win a rain-shortened game 8-0.
The Lions will be back on the field at James C Bailey Stadium for two more games against Frontier today.
