FLORENCE, Ala. – The 28th annual Urban Forestry & Horticulture Conference will take place on March 7, 2025, at Cross Point Church of Christ in Florence. Hosted by the City of Florence Beautification Board and Tree Commission, the conference, this year themed “Creating Sustainable Ecosystems: A Bubble of Life,” will focus on sustainable practices, the importance of bees, managing native plants and trees, herbalism, birding and habitat-friendly landscape design.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. and the conference begins at 8:45. The $50 fee includes a full day of expert-led sessions, networking opportunities and lunch provided by the Alabama Cattleman’s Association, sponsored in part by Tri-Green Equipment. Attendees can also enter door prize drawings and explore local vendor offerings. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available through the University of North Alabama’s Education and Research In-Service Center.

“Anyone who enjoys gardening, landscaping or outdoor activities will find value in the knowledge shared at this conference,” said Kristin Seabol, chair of the Florence Beautification Board. “This is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals while learning about sustainable practices that can benefit our environment.”

For Cullman residents, Dr. Kira Sims, Cullman County Extension coordinator, highlighted the conference’s diverse learning opportunities for those that wish to attend. “The Florence Urban Forestry & Horticulture Conference is a great opportunity for gardeners of any skill level to learn more about sustainable practices they can implement in their own gardens,” she said.

“The conference would also be beneficial to professionals in the green industry to strengthen their knowledge on sustainable practices they can include in their daily work,” she added. “Another perk to attending is receiving continuing education credits. Normally, one has to travel a great distance to attend a similar conference, but this one is close enough to be a day trip.”

Additionally, a Pesticide Recertification Class will be held on March 6 at Cross Point Church of Christ at 8:30 a.m., with a $50 registration fee. Those interested in both can register at a discounted rate of $80.

Registration is available online at www.florenceal.org/28th-annual-urban-forestry-horticulture-conference, where a printable registration form is also available.
