ADDISON, Ala. — Addison High School is hosting the Winston County Basketball Tournament this week and the men and women’s teams from Addison played Lynn in a varsity matchup with their respective teams. The Addison Lady Bulldogs pulled the upset by defeating the Lady Bears from Lynn 53-46. Addison had lost to the Lady Bears twice this season. The men defeated Lynn 63-49 in a closer than expected matchup. The Bulldogs have now defeated the Bears three times this season.
Addison 53 – Lynn 46 (Varsity Girls)
The Lady Bulldogs came into the game as underdogs, but Coach Bailey Boland had the ladies from Addison fired up as they got off to a really hot start. Addison jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first period. Addison forward Katie Barrett had 7 points in the period while guards Lauryn Cunningham and Gracie Roberts each drained a three pointer. Ava Bartlett kept the Lady Bears out of the lane as she had 2 blocks and 2 steals. Nikohl Tittle led the Bears with 3 points while Kamri Tittle and Joleigh Alexander had a bucket a piece.
Both teams settled down in the second period and Addison won the period 13-9 to take a 31-16 lead into the half. With Lynn trailing Addison 20-12, Addison went on a 7-0 run to stretch the lead to their biggest of the game at 27-12. Bartlett had a monster period for Addison as she tallied 4 points, 6 rebounds and a block. Karson Wyatt led the Lady Dawgs in scoring with 5 in the period. Lynn’s K. Tittle scored 7 of the Lady Bears 9 points in the period. N. Tittle grabbed 3 boards to lead the Bears.
The second half started out with the Lady Bears applying pressure defense and the Lady Bulldogs wilting under the pressure. The Ladies from Lynn scored the first 8 points of the frame to cut the lead to 31-24 and had all the momentum. The third period belonged to Dereka Bryan as she rained in shots from all over the floor. Behind Bryans 12 points, including two threes, Lynn chopped the Lady Dawg lead down to 32-29 with 3:05 to go in the third. With the score at 34-32 Addison, Coach Boland called a timeout and had a spirited conversation with her Lady Dawgs. At the 1:07 minute of the third, Bartlett had a putback, and knocked down two free throws. Cunningham then drained a deep three pointer and just like that, Addison’s lead was back out to 39-32. That would be the score going into the fourth.
The fourth period was a back-and-forth affair and it started with Addison stretching the lead out to 47-37 on a Barrett putback. The two teams exchanged baskets with Addison holding on for a solid 53-46 upset. The fourth period was a total team effort with 5 different ladies scoring for Addison. Barrett and Roberts led the Dawgs with 4 points apiece. Barrett chipped in 5 rebounds while Bartlett had 4 in the period. Lynn’s N. Tittle had 6 points and 3 rebounds while Bryan put in 5 more points.
Addison Head Coach Bailey Boland,
“So proud that we could come out and play hard and defeat a team that has beaten us twice this season. Our season has basically come down to us not doing the little things every night. We have lost so many games this year by just a few points and it comes down to us not finishing. Tonight, we finished. We practiced all week about doing the little things like blocking out, making the good pass and finishing at the end of the game. Good win tonight but got a big game tomorrow afternoon as we have Winston County for the championship.”

Addison 63 – Lynn 49 (Varsity Boys)
Addison came into the game with Lynn possibly looking ahead as they had handily beaten the Bears twice in the regular season. The Dawgs got off to a hot start taking an 18-8 lead at the end of the first period. Addison was having little to no trouble with Bears defense as they did basically what they wanted in the first period. Addison’s Elijah Roberts had 7 points, Scout Flynn had 5 and Jed Wilkins had 4. Addison dominated the glass 12-4 in the first period as Bradley Willette had 4 boards with several other Bulldogs having two. Lynn was carried by Austin Dodd who had 6 of the Bears 8 points. This was Dodd’s first game of the season as he has been recovering from a pretty severe football injury. Dodd looked really good in his first game back.
The second period had Lynn actually winning the period 17-15 as Lynn came to play and Addison didn’t appear to be giving it their usual sticky fingers hard-nosed defense, as Dodd found many open lanes to drive through for the easy baskets. Lynn’s Jonathan Cole had a good frame as he dropped in 6 points and snagged 3 rebounds. Addison was led by Roberts as he had 11 points and 4 rebounds. This was probably Roberts best half of the year. Addison Big Man Willette found the passing touch in the second as he tallied 4 assists. Addison carried a 33-25 lead into the half.
Addison Head Coach Triston Chambers was animated on the sidelines during the first half and one can only imagine what the half time speech was about. Addison came out and played better defense in the third period as they outscored the Bears 16-9 to take a 49-34 into the fourth period. Addison spread the wealth as six different Bulldogs scored in the third. They were led by Roberts and Flynn with 4 points apiece. Willette chipped in 3 rebounds and 2 blocks as well. Lynn was led by Mr. Dodd as he had 6 of their 9 points.
The fourth had each team playing hard but just basically exchanging baskets as Lynn won the fourth, 15-14. Addison was able to hang on for a lackadaisical 63-49 win. Addison’s Wilkins led the Dawgs with 10 points and 3 rebounds in the fourth. Cole led the Bears with 6 points while Colby Sherer had 4 points.
Addison Head Coach Triston Chambers,
“We are fortunate to have been able to come away with a win tonight when we did not play anywhere near as good as we can defensively. I expect us to come out and play with more technique and tenacity on the defensive end tomorrow afternoon. All in all though it was good to get the win.”
