HANCEVILLE, Ala. – We got Friday’s county tournament action started with a JV Girls semifinal matchup between (2) Good Hope and (3) Fairview. The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 41-20 lead in the first half and maintained a 20-point lead over the Lady Aggies throughout most of the second half to secure a 60-39 win and a spot in Saturday’s JV Girls Championship Game.
Zoe Gibbs nailed a short jumper to put Good Hope on the scoreboard first. Emmy Walker buried a trey from the left wing to give Fairview an early 3-2 lead. Gibbs and Ella Eisner each knocked down a three to give the Lady Raiders an 8-3 lead. A pair of rebounds and putbacks by Gabby Richter and Kynzlee Garmon extended their lead to 12-5 late in the first quarter. Kensli Redding scored down low, and Brooklyn Merriman knocked down a short jumper to cut it to 14-9. Redding put in another basket in the paint and later added a free throw to make it a 16-12 game. Garmon scored down low, and Gibbs nailed a three from the top of the key to give Good Hope a 21-12 lead at the start of the second quarter.
The Lady Raiders quickly added to their lead to start out the second. Garmon’s rebound and putback made it 23-12, then Eisner and Gibbs later added a three to extend their lead to 30-12. Merriman knocked down a three to cut it to 30-15, but five straight points by Gibbs, followed by another basket down low by Garmon, gave Good Hope a 37-15 lead late in the first half. Cali Golden’s three trimmed it to 37-18, but Gabby Richter grabbed the offensive rebound and put it in down low, then Gibbs knocked down a bank shot to stretch the Lady Raider lead to 41-20 going into the locker room.
Garmon laid it in and later added a pair of free throws to put Good Hope ahead, 45-20. Walker collected a steal and laid it in to cut it to 45-22. Caroline Neighbors scored in the paint, then another rebound and putback by Richter, plus a layup by Gibbs, stretched the Lady Raider lead to 51-25 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Gibbs drained another three to give Good Hope a 54-25 lead. Fairview went on a 12-0 run to cut it to 54-37, but Eisner nailed a short jumper, and Caroline Neighbors and Teagan Johnson each added a basket of their own to put the finishing touches on a 60-39 win for the Lady Raiders.
Gibbs led Good Hope with 26 points in the win. Garmon finished with 14 and Eisner added eight. Merriman posted 21 points for Fairview in the loss and Redding added seven.
The Lady Raiders will battle (1) Cold Springs in the JV Girls County Championship Game Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
