HANCEVILLE, Ala. – We continued play at this year’s county tournament Thursday and we got things started with a JV Girls semifinal battle between (1) Cold Springs and (4) West Point. The Lady Eagles created some separation late in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead at halftime and continued pulling away in the second half to collect a 51-33 win, securing a spot in Saturday’s JV Girls Championship Game.

Hannah McKenney split a pair of free throws to give West Point a 1-0 lead early in the opening period, but Hagen Ellis responded with a three on the other end to put Cold Springs in front 3-1. Reese Guthrie scored to tie the game at 3 but Keiarah Fanning knocked down another three to give the Lady Eagles a 6-3 lead. Another Ellis basket made it an 8-3 game, but the Lady Warriors responded with a three from McKenzie Nix and a basket by Kenadi Pagan to tie the game back up at 8. Pagan drained a three with 30 seconds on the clock to give West Point a 3-point lead, but Alabama Light buried a three just before the buzzer to tie the game at 11 going into the second quarter.

Fanning drilled another three to give Cold Springs a 14-11 lead early in the second. McKenney laid one in to cut the lead to 14-13 and Pagan scored inside to put the Lady Warriors ahead 15-14. Kyliegh Graves split a pair of free throws to tie the game at 15 later in the period and the Lady Eagles dominated the final two minutes of the half. Baskets by Ellis and Madelyn Davis put Cold Springs ahead 19-15 and Ellis drained a three to make it 22-15. Graves added another three just before the buzzer to send the Lady Eagles to the locker room with a 25-15 lead at the break.

Cold Springs continued to create separation in the third quarter. Baskets by Calvert and Ellis extended the lead to 31-19 midway through the third quarter. Mary Beth Penn laid one in to trim the lead to 32-21 later in the period but a pair of three-pointers from Ellis and another one from Calvert helped the Lady Eagles build a 41-25 lead by the end of the third.

After a basket by Pagan cut the lead to 15 early in the fourth quarter, Ellis scored five straight points to keep Cold Springs in front 48-28. Ellis knocked down one more three before the end of the game to wrap up a 51-33 win for the Lady Eagles.

Ellis led Cold Springs with 26 points in the win and Pagan posted 16 points in the loss.

The Lady Eagles will face the winner of (3) Fairview and (2) Good Hope in the JV Girls Championship Game Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
