HANCEVILLE, Ala. – In our second JV Girls matchup of the day, (3) Fairview took on (6) Vinemont and the Lady Aggies took control early. The Lady Eagles were held scoreless in the opening period and trailed Fairview 29-15 at halftime. Vinemont continued to battle back but Fairview was able to fend off the Lady Eagles and advance to the semifinals with a 48-33 win.
Fairview got on the scoreboard first on a free throw by Acelyn Cruce, and Brooklyn Merriman laid it in to give the Lady Aggies a 3-0 lead. Cruce nailed a pair of treys, and Emmy Walker added one of her own from long-range to extend Fairview’s lead to 12-0 late in the first quarter. Cali Golden scored down low to make it a 14-0 game going into the second.
Bryleigh Basinger banked in a three from the top of the key to cut it to 14-3 early in the second quarter. Golden and Redding each knocked down a three to give Fairview a 20-3 lead. Another three by Basinger made it a 20-6 game. Later in the second, Lee knocked down a pair of free throws to cut it to 23-10, but a rebound and putback by Kensli Redding pushed the Lady Aggie lead to 25-10. Jayden Knott and Merriman each traded threes to keep it at a 15-point game at 28-13. Basinger knocked down a short jumper to trim it to 13 at 28-15, but Fairview would take a 29-15 lead into the locker room.
Basinger nailed a short jumper, then Knott later drilled a three from the right wing to cut the Vinemont deficit to nine at 29-20 with less than five minutes to go in the third quarter. Walker drained a trey from the left wing to make it a 33-20 game, but Basinger knocked down one of her own from long-range to trim it to 10 at 33-23 going into the fourth quarter.
Basinger scored in the paint to make it a 33-25 game with a little over five minutes to go in the contest, but Redding put in a pair of baskets down low to put Fairview ahead 37-25. She later added two more baskets to give the Lady Aggies a 41-27 lead, and Merriman scored the next seven points to extend their lead to 48-27. Fairview would go on to defeat Vinemont, 48-33, to move on to the next round.
Merriman and Redding each posted 14 points in the win and Cruce and Walker each finished with seven. Basinger led the Lady Eagles with 17 points in the loss.
The Lady Aggies will take on (2) Good Hope in the JV Girls semifinals Friday at 5 p.m.
