Martin Joseph “Joe” Young, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at the age of 87 in Roswell, Georgia. Born on May 13, 1937, in Cullman, Alabama, to the late Martin Henry Young and Gertrude Berrens Young, Joe dedicated his life to his family, work and his hobbies (farmer, scratch golfer, handyman, and fisherman).
A proud graduate of St. Bernard Preparatory School, Joe went on to earn a bachelor’s degree and pursued a fulfilling career as a chemist. He began his career at FDA where he met his future wife, Edna Elizabeth Roquemore Young, who preceded him in death. After commercial experience with Zep and in business for himself, Joe finished his career back in government at the EPA.
In addition to Joe’s parent’s and wife, he was preceded in death by sister, Mary Young Adams; brothers, William Henry Young, James Robert Young, Bernard A. Young. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Donovan, and son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Kathy Young. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Emily McCoy, Wesley Young, William Young, Spencer Donovan, and Ryan Donovan. Joe’s compassionate spirit and “always willing to helping” demeanor will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held in Joe’s honor at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel on January 17, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. (central time) at Cullman City Cemetery in Cullman, Alabama. Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Martin’s life, share memories, and find comfort in the presence of those who cherished him.
In this time of mourning, we remember a man who lived for his family and embraced life with kindness. May he rest in peace, knowing he touched the hearts of many.
