CULLMAN, Ala. – Each year, The Tribune reaches out to Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and the Cullman Police Department to go over statistics for coroner calls and other responses for the previous year.
According to Kilpatrick, in Cullman County in 2024 there were 14 suicides, 12 confirmed overdoses (several additional cases are pending toxicology), three homicides and 19 traffic fatalities.
In comparison, he reported, those same numbers in 2023 were 21 suicides, 21 overdoses and 21 traffic fatalities.
Police Chief Joey Duncan said there were six traffic fatalities in the city in 2024.
Duncan said there were 1,006 wrecks; 820 resulted in property damage only; 69 had possible injuries; 91 had non-incapacitating injuries and 20 had incapacitating injuries.
There were no homicides in the city of Cullman in 2024, according to the chief.
Duncan said the leading causes of crashes were following too closely, improper lane change, failure to yield right of way from stop sign, misjudged stopping distance and failure to yield right of way from traffic.
In 2024, the CPD responded to 31,739 calls, compared to 32,176 in 2023.
