Newlyweds Are Invited To See Show Free
The Ritz Theatre is inviting all 1963 newlyweds to be guests of the theatre when the Tennessee Williams comedy, “Period of Adjustment” is shown in Cullman Jan. 13-15. All couples are invited to bring their 1963 wedding certificates for free admittance.
The comedy depicts the hilarious story of a wedding trip that began in a hearse and ended in the county jail for a bridegroom with the shakes and a bride with the shivers.
Sacred Heart Club Adopts Burmese Orphan
A four-year-old Burmese tribal orphan has been adopted by the International Relations Club at Sacred Heart College. Now living in an orphanage at Kentung, Burma, Francis (no last name) will have his financial needs taken care of until his education is terminated or as long as he is dependent upon other people. There is hope he can be brought to the United States for his higher education.
Francis is a member of the Thaunthu tribe and comes from the jungle area near Chawrawn which is sometimes referred to as the opium capital of the world. Eighty percent of the population are addicts and it is not uncommon for parents to go insane from drug addiction or die of starvation. Often they sell everything, including children, to purchase the drug.
In the orphanage the boys are given education equivalent to an American high school. Girls are educated through the eighth grade. The home is directed by PIME Missionaries of Sts. Peter and Paul and the children are cared for by Sisters of Charity. No longer completely alone and without family, Francis will be cared for and educated through funds provided by the International Relations Club of Sacred Heart College.
President of the local club is Miss Margaret Moorer.
