FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Jan. 6, 2024, meeting of the Fairview Town Council was called to order by Mayor Keith Henry and opened with an invocation by Councilwoman Julie Grimes. The council’s business included discussions on progress toward a new town park, as well as scholarships for student athletes.

Park progress was up first. The council and engineers are working together to finalize their grants and budget by February 2025. Henry stated, “I have been talking to a lot of members of the community about in-town labor.” He reassured the council that several local businesses and residents have volunteered their skills to assist in making this project a reality.

In other news, the Town of Fairview has discussed a partnership with the John Hunt Family Foundation. During his lifetime, John Hunt served as the Cullman City Parks and Recreation director. After his passing, the Hunt family established the foundation in his honor to help children in sports. The foundation will make a donation to help students pay for sports registration fees and equipment. This would allow the Town to offer limited scholarships for athletes.

Furthermore, the council approved a motion to close the trailer park located on Wesley Avenue behind town hall. This decision was made due to the condition of the property and the lack of revenue. Residents of the trailer park will have to relocate by June 2025.

The next Fairview Town Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Feb. 3, at Fairview Town Hall located at 7525 Alabama Highway 69.
