CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman County Child Development Center (CDC) will host the second annual Miss Extraordinary Pageant on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8 a.m.

Principal Trett Hardman said the idea was pitched to him last year by CDC paraprofessional Michelle Johnson.

“She is tied to the pageant world and she wanted to find a way to display our students’ true beauty, so we came up with the Miss Extraordinary Pageant,” Hardman said. “Michelle is the guru behind this great event, and I am glad to have her on our team.”

Hardman said the CDC checks a lot of boxes for the Cullman County Schools system.

“We serve students in grades K-12 with special needs,” Hardman said. “We strive daily to create a culture of acceptance while working tirelessly to meet the individual needs of our students. We serve students of multiple types of disabilities with a goal of one day being contributors to our community, and/or having the skills to live independently. All of our staff members work in unison for the betterment of each student who walks through our doors, and I cannot be more thankful for the team of teachers, paraprofessionals and other staff members that serve our kids! Because of them, our students get to experience things and grow in ways that some may never expect! I watch in awe daily of all the great things that happen daily on our campus and the adults who serve our students so well.”

The pageant will be held at Fairview High School in the Keith E. Pattillo Auditorium on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 8 a.m.

“We are thankful for the support from Fairview to allow us to use their great facility,” Hardman said. “We have a form to complete, and more details can be shared. This pageant has different age divisions for young ladies to compete to celebrate beauty, confidence and empowerment, and for those of all abilities to shine. There is a Miss Extraordinary Division for students with different abilities to be able to showcase their beauty and grace on stage as well, which was a crowd favorite last year.”

Hardman said all proceeds from the event go right back into the CDC to provide great educational experiences for students.

“We strive to provide them the best with classroom technology, instructional tools and facility upgrades so that our students can become the best version that they can be,” he said.
