A Celebration of Life service for Waid Freeman Smith, 86, of Hanceville, Alabama will be 11 a.m. January 4, 2025 at Cullman First Baptist Church in Cullman. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church on Saturday.

Waid, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 14, 2024 surrounded by the love of his family. A man of deep faith and unwavering dedication, Waid was a cherished member of Cullman First Baptist Church, where his life reflected his love for God and others.

Born with a servant’s heart, he worked selflessly as a plumber for over 45 years, always putting the needs of others before his own. In addition to his career, he found immense fulfillment serving his community through his work at Hanceville Funeral Home for more than 25 years, offering comfort and compassion to families during their most difficult times.

Waid’s pride in his country was evident through his distinguished military service. A proud member of the United States Air Force, he retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of active service, including a tour in Vietnam. His unwavering dedication to duty and his comrades exemplified the values he carried throughout his life.

Above all, Waid deeply loved his family, who were the center of his world. His kindness, humility, and steadfast spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Smith; son, Michael Smith; daughter, Michele Armstrong; grandchildren, Savannah Smith-Seay (Conner), Colton Smith, Lauren Armstrong, Grant Armstrong, and Haleigh Armstrong; and sister-in-law, Audrey Smith.
Waid Freeman Smith leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and faith that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Hanceville Funeral Home is honored to serve the Smith Family.
