Funeral services for Virginia Ann Guthery, 87, of Cullman will be held Monday December 23, 2024 at 11 a.m., at Moss Funeral Home 1901 2nd Ave NW Cullman AL, 35055, with burial to follow at Cullman City Cemetery 9th St SW, Cullman, AL 35055. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. service.
Virginia passed peacefully Wednesday, December 18th in her residence at The Neighborhood in Cullman. She was born on February 1, 1937.
Mrs. Guthery graduated from Cullman High School in 1955 and earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Saint Bernard College in the late 1950’s. She continued her education at the University of Alabama earning a Masters of Arts degree in Education in 1963. During her lifetime, she taught a variety of math classes and served as the Math Team Coach at Hanceville High School for many years. She also taught night classes at Wallace State Community College. After her retirement, she worked part-time for Saint Bernard Preparatory School teaching math and tutoring on the side. Mrs. Guthery was a proud member of the National Honors Society Mu Alpha Theta.
Mrs. Guthery was preceded in death by her parents, E.S. and Virginia McDonald, her brother Mr. Gene (Sally) McDonald and elder daughter, Jennifer Leigh Guthery. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Marie (Jason) Kelly of Cullman; three grandchildren, John-Jackson Guthery, Della Ann Kelly and Benjamin Michael Kelly of Cullman; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
