Darwin Lafayette Hunter, 61, of Cullman, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

He was born on January 19, 1963, in Walker County to Robert Leslie Sr. and Frances Alexander Hunter. Darwin attended Walker High School, where he played football, and went on to Livingston University, where he earned four letters in football and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology. After college, he joined the Navy as a commissioned officer and completed Aviation Officer Candidate School (AOCS), which led him to serve overseas aboard the USS Midway in Yokosuka, Japan.

Following his time in the Navy, Darwin met Lynne Evans, the woman who completed him. They married on May 14, 1994, in Jefferson County and were blessed with two sons, Daniel and Benjamin Hunter.

Darwin was a man of many talents and professions, but his greatest roles were as a loving and devoted husband, father, and Pap Pap. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and an active member of Baldwin Church of Christ, where his strong voice could always be heard lifting the congregation in song and prayer. Darwin was also a committed member of the Masonic Lodge, where he built lasting friendships and embraced the values of brotherhood, charity, and service.

Darwin is survived by his wife, Lynne Hunter; his sons, Daniel (Morgan) and Benjamin (Savannah); his granddaughter, Wyatt Reese Hunter, and expectant grandson, Samuel Lane Hunter; his parents, Robert Leslie Sr. and Frances Alexander Hunter; and his siblings, Leslie Hunter Jr. (Andriah) and Jason Hunter (Sandy).

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 23, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Moss Service Funeral Home, 1901 2nd Ave NW, Cullman, Alabama. A service will follow at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Moss Service Funeral Home, with Jack Smith and Alton Bailey officiating.

Darwin leaves a profound and lasting void in the hearts of his family and friends. He lived by a simple yet powerful saying, “Do things right, do the right things, and good things will happen.” His words and the values he embraced will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
