A celebration of life for Betty Cable Basinger, 85, of Greenville, SC, and formerly from Hanceville, AL, passed away December 12th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. The celebration will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hanceville. The Reverend Marty Basinger will be officiating the service. Internment will immediately follow the service at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville. Mrs. Basinger will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Hanceville Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for Mrs. Basinger. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 18th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hanceville Funeral Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Basinger; parents, Ulysses Grant Cable and Juanita Cable; sisters, Cheryl Miller; and Lucille Mooney; step-sister Laura Hodges and step-brother, Duane Cable.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hanceville. Among Betty’s most precious treasures were her children and grandchildren, which she enjoyed spending time with. She had a passion for scrapbooking and spent countless hours on her genealogy researching her family history. She discovered a half sister and two step brothers that she did not know of, and relished spending time with them and making lasting memories. She had a passion for cooking, gardening and canning. She loved taking long walks and being out in nature. Betty and her husband James walked many miles up and down the country road they lived on and at the park. She also loved to shop and travel with her family, and was an avid Alabama football fan. Mrs. Basinger retired from the Cullman Golf Course where she worked for over 20 years.
She is survived by three sons, Jimmy (Sarah) Basinger, Marty (Susan) Basinger, Murray (Julie) Basinger, daughter Anita (Jim) Foster, nine grandchildren, Leslie Basinger Kester, Lindsey Kraus (Ben), Tyler Basinger (Lynn), Chase Basinger (Mary), David Basinger (Amy), Christopher Basinger (Nicole), Kevin Basinger, Michelle Basinger (Eric) and Wesley Basinger; seventeen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; step-brother Doug Cable and sister-in-law Betty Cable.
