Addison 46 – Sumiton Christian 38 (Varsity Girls)
The ladies from Addison came into the game with Sumiton Christian with high hopes for an easy victory. After all, Meek had routed the Lady Eagles by 40 earlier in the season and Addison had just handled Meek the night before. What the young women from Addison learned really quick is that anyone can beat anyone on any given night.
The Lady Bulldogs came out focused and jumped on Sumiton Christian, as they should, 17-4 in the first period. It wasn’t even really that close. Addison’s Ava Bartlett had a quarter to remember as she scored 7 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, 3 steals and a block. Gracie Roberts dished out 4 assists in the frame as well. Sumiton Christian could only muster buckets by Annalee Lemmons and Annalace Rice. Reece Rice was able to grab 4 rebounds for the Lady Eagles.
After Addison had dominated the first period, it looked like they lost focus and started playing sloppily in the second. Now, the ladies from Sumiton Christian had something to do with that as they out hustled and outshot the Lady Bulldogs pretty much the rest of the half. The Lady Eagles won the period 15-11 as they cut the lead to 28-19. Sumiton Christian was led by Ali Manuel with 8 points and 7 rebounds in the period. Her teammate, A. Rice, added 6 points and 3 rebounds. The Lady Eagles actually were the first team to outrebound the Lady Bulldogs in a half this year as they won the first half battle of the boards 27-24. Addison’s Lauryn Cunningham, Katie Barrett and Roberts each drained a three-pointer to keep Addison close in the period. Emma Cleghorn and Bartlett each had 4 rebounds in the period as well for the Lady Bulldogs.
The second half started out a little better for Addison as their play slightly improved, but the Lady Eagles weren’t going anywhere. Addison won the period 11-8 to go into the fourth period ahead 39-27. Addison’s Barrett had 5 points and 3 boards while Cunningham had a trey. Bartlett grabbed 4 more rebounds and Karson Wyatt snagged 3 for herself. Sumiton Christian was led by Ali Kelly with 3 points while Lemmons and A. Rice had a bucket apiece.
Sumiton Christian never let up as they won the final period, 11-7 but could not get any closer than 5 as Addison came away with a hard-fought win 46-38. Addison’s Cunningham came through in the clutch as she scored 5 of Addison’s 7 points. Bartlett got her 4 more rebounds. The Lady Eagles were led by A. Rice with 7 points and Kelly with 2. Lemmons led the Lady Eagles with 4 rebounds.
