GOOD HOPE, Ala. – Good Hope’s City Council held its first meeting of December at Good Hope City Hall Monday night and discussed preparations for this weekend’s upcoming holiday events.
This year’s Good Hope Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. with Christmas in the Park set to begin immediately after the parade and run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Municipal Park. Councilman Greg Brown will serve as the Grand Marshal for this year’s parade. The parade will begin at the Good Hope High School football field and end at Good Hope City Hall. Following the parade, guests will be welcome to enjoy free food, ornament crafts, pictures with Santa and more at Christmas in the Park.
In addition to the upcoming events this weekend, the Council was also excited to announce the new Love’s Travel Stop location being built on County Road 222 near the 305 exit on I65 is set to officially open this Thursday (Dec. 12) at 7 a.m.
The city also shared some more information on its Facebook page Monday afternoon regarding new safety improvements that will be made on County Road 437 at Good Hope School Road.
“Here is a layout of what the safety improvements on County Road 437 at Good Hope School Road will look like. As you can see, Beach Grove Road will be closed off where it currently comes out on county road 437. All traffic using beach grove will continue past the current intersection and use the new road. Stop signs are placed on beach grove road at the Daystar drive intersection.
The city has been looking at ways to increase safety in this area for years. We have had multiple engineers come in and watch traffic and make suggestions. The answer was always the same. Drivers are either confused because of the offset or they just simply don’t follow the law and stop on red before turning right. That is creating a major problem for cars leaving Good Hope School Road with a green light. Making these improvements was suggested by each engineer.
We realize that sometimes it takes a little while to get adjusted to change, but we are committed to doing what we can to enhance safety in our community.”
The Good Hope City Council will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting Monday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Good Hope City Hall.
