BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Volunteer Fire Department hosted its fourth annual Breakfast with Santa at the Berlin Community Center on Saturday, Dec. 7, serving up pancakes, bacon, sausage and smiles to the crowd that turned out for the donation-based event. In all, the department brought in more than $13,000 for area children.

Guests made donations for their meals, eating in or taking them to go, all for a wonderful community cause.

Berlin VFD Treasurer Lee Holder explained, “All the money raised here goes to children in need for Christmas. The fire department is all volunteer. Everything we do here is on a volunteer basis, but today we feel like we really got paid. We got paid by your generosity.”

Along with breakfast, children got to meet and get their photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Adults entered drawings for a Ruger American Rifle Generation II or a Ladies’ Day Out gift certificate to spend in the Cullman Warehouse District. A silent auction was held for an analog electric smoker and gravity protein feeder.

The department raised more than $13,000 to help provide Christmas for children in need.

Holder thanked the community and local business sponsors on behalf of the department, stating, “Thank you for your support. You’ve blessed our hearts, and we are so very thankful for this event.”
