CLANTON – Periods of rain with thunderstorms at times will occur through early Wednesday morning across Alabama as several upper-level disturbances will move across the region. Total rainfall by early Wednesday will generally be 0.5-3 inches, with the potential for some higher amounts across the southern half of the state. Localized flooding may occur across the southern half on Tuesday in poor drainage areas, but widespread flooding will not occur.
In addition, enough instability is forecast to develop for a few severe storms with wind gusts from 40-60 mph south of I-20 from 10 am until 7 pm Tuesday. A brief tornado or two are also possible. However, widespread severe weather is not expected.
This will be followed by cooler temperatures from Wednesday through Friday, with below freezing temperatures across most of the state both Thursday and Friday mornings. A slow warming trend will occur this weekend.
