BAILEYTON, Ala. – Mayor Windell Calloway called the Baileyton Town Council’s monthly meeting to order on Monday evening, Dec. 2, when two new members were sworn in and two recognized for their service.
The meeting began with Cullman County Circuit Court Judge Gregory Nicholas swearing in Jack McGee and Donna Kent as new members of the council. McGee took place 3 while Kent took place 2.
McGee has been a member of the community and served as a firefighter for over 25 years. “I’m excited and happy to serve the community any way that I can,” he said.
Kent, who is president of the Baileyton Senior Center, echoed McGee’s excitement, stating, “I look forward to serving our community!”
Following the swearing in of the new members, Calloway took a moment to honor outgoing councilmen Roy Shedd and Wendell Peterson for their years of dedicated service to the town. Shedd and Peterson were awarded plaques to commemorate their time as councilmen and thank them for the efforts they made to serve Baileyton. Both men’s resignations were announced at the council’s November meeting.
In other news, the council discussed upcoming town holiday events:
- Bargain Days: Saturday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m.-noon at the Old Fire Hall
- Baileyton Senior Center Community Christmas: Saturday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Baileyton Senior Center
- Christmas Drive-Thru: Saturday, Dec 14, from 5-8 p.m. at the Baileyton Volunteer Fire Department
The next town council meeting will be Monday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m. at Baileyton Town Hall, located at 95 Fire Station Road.
