CULLMAN, Ala. – A New York woman was killed while walking along Alabama Highway 157 between Walmart and Home2Suites in Cullman on Monday, Dec. 2. On Wednesday, Dec. 4, Cullman County Coroner Jeremy Kilpatrick identified the victim as Mildred Sanders, 81, of Ithaca, New York.
A statement from the City of Cullman on Monday stated: “The Cullman Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit is currently investigating a fatal vehicle collision that occurred at 6:18 pm involving a pedestrian on AL-157 near the Home2 Suites and Walmart area. At this time, limited information is available as the investigation is ongoing. CPD is actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.”
This was the second pedestrian fatality in two days in Cullman. On Sunday, Dec. 1, Mark Alan Johns, 59, of Cullman, was struck and killed in a hit-and-run incident along Alabama Highway 69 near the Cullman Shooting Sports complex. On Tuesday, Dec. 3, the Cullman Police Department arrested Michael Garrett Massie, 35, of New Market, Alabama. Massie is facing preliminary charges of felony leaving the scene of an accident.
