CULLMAN, Ala. – Veterans with Christ hosted the inaugural Fishing with Veterans on Veterans Day. The goal was to connect veterans with new friends and just enjoy a day of fishing. The event took place at Smith Lake Park, where friends and family fished and even took boat rides.
Guests had plenty of refreshments from a food truck, and enjoyed entertainment featuring Clay Dye (stage name “Juice”) and his friend “Crumb.” Juice, a veteran, said, “We are really excited about doing something for vets. There is not a lot for vets, so going fishing with vets and doing a little music is cool. We are playing a little live music, a little country, Christian and Southern rock. Taking the vets fishing and letting everybody just have a day is a blast.”
Outreach programs such as 13 Life Ministries and Veterans with Christ had tables set up beside the stage for veterans in need.
Founder of the fishing event, Zack Ingram, spoke about his creative idea of reaching out to veterans, saying, “Me and our local church group, Veterans with Christ, wanted to reach out to as many veterans as we could. What better way than to teach them how to fish and ask locals if they wanted to bring out their bass boat and their knowledge to come show and teach the skill of fishing here on Smith Lake. Ten or 15 boats said they would love to come out. The DJ came out for free on his time, provided the music and entertainment. A food truck provided the smash burgers, hot dogs and all kinds of refreshments.”
