CULLMAN, Ala. – West Elementary hosted its annual Veterans Day program on Thursday, Nov. 7, with two performances by its fifth graders.
Military veteran and fifth-grade teacher Keenan Hollingsworth said the school also hosted a reception for local veterans on Thursday.
“In a heartfelt display of unity and patriotism, fifth-grade students from West Elementary came together to honor veterans in a program that celebrated their sacrifices and service,” Hollingsworth said. “Our event, held on Thursday, Nov. 7, was designed to instill a sense of pride for our country and deep respect for the men and women who have served.”
Hollingsworth said she believed the students showcased their appreciation for those who have defended our freedoms.
“I truly believe our program reflects a strong sense of national pride and unity,” she said. “The children took to heart the values of courage, dedication and service, expressing them in a way that left a profound impact on those in attendance. My main goal is to help students understand the importance of Veterans Day and to foster a connection with those who have served. We wanted them to feel united in gratitude and to take pride in being part of a country with such dedicated heroes.”
Many in attendance expressed feeling deeply appreciated and honored by the students’ tribute. The program highlighted the bond between generations, reminding everyone of the importance of remembering and honoring those who have served.
“I want this to be a powerful reminder of the importance of teaching patriotism and respect for veterans to future generations,” Hollingsworth said.
Hollingsworth is a field artillery sergeant in the 117th Field Artillery Regiment of the Alabama Army National Guard.
