PREP BASKETBALL: Fairview, West Point earn wins at 5th annual Fairview Tip-Off Classic

FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The fifth annual Fairview Tip-Off Classic was hosted at Fairview High School Saturday, and we had several local teams in the field. West Point got things started with a dominant, 70-31 win over Susan Moore, Good Hope dropped its game to Lauderdale County,63-42 and Fairview ended the night by knocking off Susan Moore 59-49.

West Point 70 – Susan Moore 31 (Game One)

Camryn Faulkner got the scoring started for West Point with a layup, then a rebound and putback by Laklin Shadix made it 4-0. A steal and a layup by Kealie Harbison gave them a 6-0 lead. Baskets by Shadix and Patton Fell made it 10-2, then five straight points by Jaelyn Faulkner stretched their lead to 15-4. The Lady Warriors ended up taking a 15-7 lead into the second quarter.

Camryn Faulkner drilled a trey from the right wing, then a layup by Harbison, followed by a rebound and putback by Kenadi Pagan gave them a 22-9 lead. Jaelyn Faulkner went off on the offensive end, scoring the final 11 points of the first half, as the Lady Warriors took a 33-12 lead into the locker room. West Point kept adding onto their lead in the second half, as baskets by Camryn Faulkner and Shadix made it 38-12 in the third quarter. Jaelyn and Camryn Faulkner scored the next seven points to stretch West Point’s lead to 45-20. A late basket by Harbison made it 47-25 going into the final period.

Baskets by Jaelyn Faulkner, Harbison, and Shadix stretched West Point’s lead to 57-27 in the fourth quarter, and they went on cruise control after that, as they went on to roll past Susan Moore, 70-31.

Jaelyn Faulkner led the way for West Point with 24 points. Harbison added 15 points. Camryn Faulkner ended up with 13 points, and Shadix collected 10 points in the win.

Lauderdale County 63 – Good Hope 42 (Game Two)

Layups by Ava McSwain and Lexi Marshall gave Good Hope an early 4-0 lead, but Lauderdale County went on a 9-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. Sophie Konrad hit a floater, then a short jumper by Lucie Adams helped tie the game up at nine. Later on, a long jumper by Adams tied the game up at 11 going into the second quarter.

The Lady Tigers grabbed an early 17-13 lead in the quarter, but McSwain scored five straight points to cut it to 20-18 late in the first half. A late basket by Jolee McHan kept the deficit at two at 22-20 at the half. Lauderdale County went on a 7-0 run to start out the third quarter, as their lead was now at nine at 29-20. A huge three-point by Ella Gossett, followed by a free throw from her, trimmed it to just five at 29-24. The Lady Tigers, though, answered right back with a 9-0 run to push their lead to double digits at 38-24.

McSwain drilled a short jumper, then corner threes from Marshall and McSwain cut it to 38-32 late in the third quarter. A trey from the right wing by Adams made it a 43-35 game, but a three from the Lady Tigers stretched their lead to 46-35 going into the final period. McSwain scored Good Hope’s first seven points of the fourth quarter to cut it to 48-42, but it would be all Lauderdale County after that. The Lady Tigers went on a 15-0 run to end the game and ended up defeating the Lady Raiders 63-42.

McSwain finished with 21 points for Good Hope in the loss. Adams added seven points, and Marshall ended up with five points.

Fairview 59 – Susan Moore 49 (Game Three)

Darby Nichols got Fairview on the scoreboard with a pair of free throws, then Whitney Quick hit a basket in the paint to give them an early 4-0 lead. Davis Stidham hit a tough shot down low, and Quick drained a trey from the right wing to push the Lady Aggie lead to 10-2. Kailyn Redding hit a pair of free throws, and Peyton Defoor scored through a foul and ended up hitting the free throw to make it 15-2. Susan Moore cut it to 15-7, but Defoor drilled a three, and Stidham added a pair of late baskets, as Fairview took a 22-9 lead into the second period.

Stidham hit a three from the left wing, and Defoor added a pair of baskets to make it 29-12. Baskets by Redding and Defoor made it 34-17 at the half. The Lady Bulldogs cut it to 36-24 to start out the third quarter, but Quick drained a three from the right wing, and Redding hit a basket in the paint to give Fairview a 41-24 lead. An 8-1 run by Susan Moore trimmed it to 10 at 42-32, but another basket by Redding and a trey by Lexi Golden made it a 48-35 game going into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bulldogs didn’t waste any time cutting even more into Fairview’s lead to start out the quarter, drilling a pair of threes to make it a 48-41 game. They later hit another long-range shot to cut it to 50-44 with less than four minutes to go in the game. Stidham and Quick put a halt on Susan Moore’s attempt at a comeback as they each hit a late three to push their lead to 56-45. Quick hit a pair of free throws, and Redding added one of her own from the charity stripe, as the Lady Aggies ended up knocking off the Lady Bulldogs 59-49.

Defoor led the way for Fairview with 14 points. Stidham wasn’t far behind with 12 points, while Quick and Redding each posted 11 points in the win.
