FAIRVIEW, Ala. – Fairview High School held a mock election Monday, Nov. 4, ahead of the Nov. 5 General Election.
Students from grades nine through 12 learned about the election process and how to cast a ballot.
Junior Jack Haynes shared, “I think this experience has allowed me to understand how the voting process works, and now I know how to vote whenever I do turn 18. Now, I’ll know what to do and where to go and how things work.”
History teacher LeeDell Cook explained the mock election process, sharing, “We’re holding a mock student election at Fairview High School. It’s a history department project. We do it departmentwide, and with each class period we bring them in and they go through the voting process just like they would on Election Day, like you and I will do tomorrow. Hopefully, this will give them experience when they do turn 18 and are registered voters, and they will understand the process more clearly. Also, each one of us has taken time in our classes to cover different lessons that have to do with elections and the voting process.”
Each student lined up to show his or her ID, take a ballot, fill it out and turn it in.
Senior Josie Earl told The Tribune, “This has prepared me for Election Day because I’ll be 18 soon and I have no idea how to do this. So, this is running me through the process so that I will know how to do this when I have to go by myself and go do it.”
